Liverpool could transfer shop at Juventus… but not for Dybala

Liverpool have been linked to a transfer move for Paulo Dybala of Juventus. That is unlikely, but if the Reds are shopping in Turin there is a better candidate.

There is a new spurious transfer rumor around Liverpool Football Club. An Italian media source is claiming the club are going to bid over £150 million for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.

Despite all the ITK accounts jumping on that rumor there appears to be no substance in the claim. However there is one Juventus star who may come (back) on to Liverpool’s radar if the Serie A side are looking to make sales to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

My guess is that Juventus would happily sell the Argentine striker for a bid of over £150 million. I seriously doubt there are any clubs who would be willing to pay that much for a talented player who has some question marks around him.

In the event of Ronaldo moving to Turin they would probably keep Dybala to play on the right with the new signing on the left and Mario Mandzukic down the middle. It would be Dybala’s countryman Gonzalo Higuain who would be the first to be sold to fund the Ronaldo move.

Am I suggesting Liverpool will be in the market for him? Not at all. He is 30-years-old and way outside the price/age tendencies of Liverpool purchases under FSG. He is more of a Chelsea signing!

If Juventus are looking to shift players then I could see Liverpool enquiring about Douglas Costa. The Brazilian, who is currently at the World Cup, only moved to Juve permanently this summer after a loan-spell.

He won’t be happy to see Ronaldo follow him through the door and take up his expected starting position. I could see the possibility of him being loaned out – and that is the kind of deal we can expect Liverpool to be interested in.

Hoping Paulo Dybala ends up at Anfield seems to me to be beyond hopeful or optimistic and into the realm of semi-delusional!
