Liverpool are absolutely not interested in 29-year-old central defender Domagoj Vida.
Reports from earlier in the week had linked with Croatia star with a move to Anfield, but now they’ve been rubbished by a UK based journalist.
David Maddock tweeted that manager Jurgen Klopp didn’t want Vida in his side, and that the club are actively searching for an attacker instead.
And so it appears as if Klopp is pleased to start the new domestic season with the same defensive partners that were criticized for failing to provide Virgil van Dijk with enough quality competition.
That means it’ll come down to a straight fight between Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip for that second central defensive position, while Ragnar Klavan will have to be content to wait in the wings. Joe Gomez could operate beside van Dijk, but he’s been used on the right-flank more often than not.

Vida has been an important part of the Croat side who have reached the semi-final of the World Cup, but he’s barely ever played in a top five European league and his age would work against him – especially as Besiktas want £20 million.
In the tweet, Maddock also said that the absurd rumour linking Aston Villa man Jack Grealish to a Anfield move were also way off the mark. You can all breath a sigh of relief at that one.
But what’s interesting about the news is that Klopp is still interested in bringing in an attacker, could that mean a move for Lyon star Nabil Fekir is still on? With France remaining in the World Cup, it’s unlikely that there will be any movement on that for now.

However, might those crazy Paulo Dybala rumours suddenly start to make sense? It would be an absolutely massive signal of intent by Liverpool if they signed Dybala, and you’d certainly rather they spent the money on a genuine world class talent than a 29-year-old defender.
