Liverpool can take advantage of the recent sacking of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte by making a play for one of their want-away World Cup stars.
I am surprised it took this long but Chelsea have finally sacked manager Antonio Conte. News broke today that they are moving on from the Italian coach just a year after he won the Premier League title after a poor 2017/18 season where Chelsea finished behind Liverpool and missed out a Champions League place.
The expectation is The Blues will announce Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as their new manager with former Liverpool transfer target Jorginho also heading to Stamford Bridge. That is huge news in the Premier League but there is a way Liverpool can make the most of the situation.

Firing a coach after pre-season has already begun is rare. Most clubs do that work as the season closes to allow a new coach to settle in, assess the squad and sign new players. The two month delay puts Chelsea far behind the curve.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was already unsettled and angling for a move away from the London side. Now Liverpool could take advantage of the turmoil and force through a big bid for the stopper.
Reports earlier in the summer said that the Belgian would be available for around £50 million. Chelsea have already proved with Petr Cech they will sell a goalie to a rival. To my mind a move for Thibaut Courtois would be better value than a transfer bid for Alisson Becker from Roma.
Courtois is only 26-years-old and is heading into his peak years. He could have as much as 10 years left at the very top. That makes a £50 million incredibly reasonable.

The thought is he would like to go to Real Madrid but they prefer the Brazilain. Hopefully Courtois will be desperate for Champions League football and an escape from the Chelsea chaos as see a good way out at Jurgen Klopp’s rising Liverpool side.
