Liverpool are rumored to be preparing a transfer bid for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker but that maybe undermined with the latest news about Danny Ward

The transfer rumor cycle is coming around again for Alisson Becker to Liverpool. Reports from Italy are that the Reds are preparing a £58 million bid to AS Roma for the Brazilian international. Both Chelsea and Real Madrid may follow-up with offers according to the article.

Roma are open to cashing in on the goalie after his excellent season and high-profile games in the Champions League and World Cup. The player has his heart set on a move to Real but it remains to be seen if the La Liga side will meet their valuation. If they don’t then Liverpool would be his likely destination.

Real Madrid have a wad of cash available after Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Juventus this week. However they also have a Ronaldo-sized hole in their attack. It is thought they will pursue attacking targets before any thought of signing a goalie for a record-breaking fee.

These latest rumors contradict reports from a week ago that Jurgen Klopp was not going to spend big on a goalkeeper in this window. Could the disastrous second half performance (where have I heard that before?) by Loris Karius in the preseason friendly as Tranmere Rovers have prompted a change of heart? I’m not so sure.

Today news came from Melwood that Klopp is going to give Welsh international Danny Ward a shot at being the Liverpool number one. He has been a patient third choice behind Karius and Simon Mignolet for the past few seasons. His good loan spell at Huddersfield in 2016/17 prompted Klopp to keep him at the club.

There also remains a third option in between Danny Ward and Alisson Becker: sign a cheaper keeper. That would most likely be Jack Butland from Stoke City.
