Liverpool have reported interest in signing Aaron Ramsey. Signing the midfielder would help sink Arsenal for the next decade.

Liverpool Football Club have been named as a potential destination for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman is weighing up his options at The Emirates with only a year left on his contract.

A number of Liverpool fans are not sure he is needed or good enough for Anfield. There is nothing more than idle speculation at this point but the prospect of this transfer is interesting one.

Ramsey is a decent player and one of The Gunner’s most consistent players over the last few seasons. (Though that’s not saying much). Liverpool do need another creative body in the squad as the moves for Nabil Fekir indicate.

However the benefit in signing Ramsey is not simply to bolster the Liverpool midfield. It would have the added bonus of further weakening an already failing Arsenal squad.

Under Arsene Wenger the Arsenal squad became unbalanced and badly lacking in a number of departments. New manager Unai Emery has made a couple of solid purchases but nothing that will help them threaten the top four.

If Ramsey were to bail this summer it would be a huge blow for their prospects this season and would be crushing for their fans who see him as one of the only hard-working players in the squad.

He would be leaving Arsenal with a midfield consisting of paceless Granit Xhaka, the half-arsed wanderings of Mesut Ozil and Premier League new boy Lucas Torreira. It would all but guarantee another year out of the Champions League.

Kopites know too well how hard it is to come back to the European top table after multiple years away.

There are players I’d rather have over Ramsey. But sticking the knife into Arsenal’s dying squad is something I’d love to see us do.
