Liverpool keeper named and shamed as league’s highest paid per save
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been named and shamed as the league’s highest paid per save.
Research carried out by SportsCover Direct has uncovered the true cost of keeping Mignolet in the squad – while revealing that the Belgian international tops the ladder in terms of cost per save.
His 40 saves during the top flight campaign were each worth a staggering £78,000. To put that into context, Manchester City star Ederson made nearly double that number and cost just £42,785 each time.
And while stoppers such as Manchester United’s David de Gea, Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois and Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris might be on more money than Mignolet, but there exceptional shot stopping ability all brought their cost per save below the former Sunderland man.

Liverpool fans have been arguing until they’re blue in the face about the need to bring in a better goalkeeper to compete with Loris Karius and Mignolet, and now they finally have their man in Alisson Becker.
As a result, the Premier League’s most costly stopper could be about to depart Anfield. Incredibly, reports have linked the Belgian with a move to Barcelona, but local press are saying that a permanent move away is proving difficult to arrange. A loan move may be the most likely exit for Mignolet, say the Liverpool Echo.
The Belgian has been on Merseyside for five years, but there have always been question marks hanging over his head. Thus, it’s no great surprise to see Mignolet’s Anfield adventure drawing to a close – although some might be surprised that he’s been allowed five years to try and prove his worth.
Meanwhile, it’s also been revealed that Liverpool defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ragnar Klavan cost a fair bit per tackle. Netherlands captain Van Dijk made 32 for the Reds at a price of nearly £227,000 per time, while cult legend Klavan completed just 16 at £178,750.
