Liverpool are finalizing a deal for Danny Ings to leave Anfield but negotiations could get sticky with Southampton and Crystal Palace as the two main suitors.

There are now two clubs leading the transfer race to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings. After Newcastle ruled themselves out it leaves Crystal Palace and Southampton as the two primary suitors for the forward.

Jurgen Klopp like the Englishman but acknowledges it will be hard for him to get first team minutes this season so is prepared to let him go. The club is holding out for £20 million in transfer fees.

Liverpool have a rocky transfer history with both of the these clubs so negotiations could become sticky or fraught in the final hours of the window.

Southampton have beef with the Reds. After signing a handful of their players in successive summers – Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne & Sadio Mane – the two sides got in a tangle over Liverpool’s move for Virgil van Dijk last summer.

That led to accusations of tapping up and the Reds pulling out of the deal. That was resurrected in January but it cost the club a whopping £75 million to make it happen. Southampton would be a prime destination for Danny Ings but it remains to be seen if the two clubs still have any lingering animosity over transfers past.

While Southampton have been sellers to Anfield, Crystal Palace have been the buyers. The London side have bought Martin Kelly, Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho in the last four years.

There is a strong argument to make that Palace overpaid for all those players. If they feel that way then perhaps they will be a little tougher to squeeze out the £20 million fee for Ings.

Next. Will the Reds win the Premier League this season???. dark

Or perhaps they can make it three summers in a row where they pay huge fees for Liverpool’s unwanted players. Let’s hope it is the latter!
