Gomez has pundits falling over themselves with praise
Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez has got pundits falling over themselves to praise him following the Reds’ 2-1 win over Leicester City.
Gomez started for the fourth time in a row and outshone Virgil van Dijk, who has been in imperious form this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men remain unbeaten despite being slightly sub-par against Leicester, who had an error from goalkeeper Alisson Becker to thank for allowing them to grab a foothold back into the game.
Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane grabbed goals for Liverpool, while Rachid Ghezzel hit the back of the net for the home side.

Pundits are falling over themselves in a bid to praise Gomez. Match of the Day’s Danny Murphy labelled the youngster ‘a real talent’ and said that he played better than his defensive partner – and went on to say that England manager Gareth Southgate would be excited by the youngster’s progress.
Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce thought the defender was the Reds’ best player on the day as he nullified Foxes star Demarai Gray and came up with a vital block to stop James Maddison from scoring.
Gomez is making the most of Dejan Lovren’s injury to cement his status as the preferred partner for van Dijk – and on this form it’ll be very hard for Klopp to drop the young Three Lions international.
It’s also going to make life tough for his fellow England colleagues, who will now have extra competition for places. Gomez missed out on his place in Southgate’s World Cup squad due to injury, and on this form would have been an important part of the side.
The international break is probably coming at a bad time for the player, who isn’t sure of his place under Southgate. While he’s in such magnificent form, Gomez will want to keep playing as regularly as possible – but at least normal service should be resumed when Klopp welcomes back his national stars.
