BBC Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker has leapt to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s defence.
Lineker took to Twitter to endorse the appointment of throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark as the Reds seek to make marginal gains that’ll win the club an extra few points.
After Klopp picked up some flak for the move, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker took to social media to back the German’s decision – and claimed that the little things could make a big difference at the end of the campaign.
Some fans are also concerned this decision will turn Liverpool into a team full of Rory Delap’s – the Stoke City player who is best known for his long throwing.
Don’t understand the sniping at Klopp’s appointment of a throw-in coach. If it brings about one extra goal, an extra point or two, it could make all the difference to a season. It’s the little things.... https://t.co/meUJIxaDMf

Gronnemark claims that there are three different type of throw-ins, reported the BBC, and aims to make the team better in each category. According to the article, previous sides that the Danish national has worked with have boosted their goals tally by 10.
Talking about his role, the new Melwood employee said: “A focus on throw-ins can save the life of small clubs, as a technique to survive.
“But at the top of the league, it can help with a more fluent style of play. No matter what position in the league, throw-ins are an advantage.”
Joe Gomez, who was recently recalled to the England squad, has already seen an improvement in his technique. Speaking on 5 Live, Ian Wright remarked on the quality of Gomez’s throws and mentioned that it would have troubled the defence.
But watchers will have to wait another 10 days before they can see Liverpool’s new skills in action. A break in the Premier League for international fixtures means that their next game isn’t until the15th of September against Tottenham Hotspur.
Keep an eye on the quality of recycled possession and make your own mind up about how Gronnemark is improving the side.
