It has been rumored for some time, but now it is official that the Liverpool senior squad will be making the move over to the Kirkby academy in the summer of 2020.

The news was reported by Sky Sports where they said the following about the new Liverpool facility,

"“Jurgen Klopp says the start of a £50m project to bring Liverpool’s first-team squad and academy sides onto the same site is a “big statement from the club and owners”. The club held a ‘ground breaking’ ceremony to mark the beginning of the redevelopment in Kirkby which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2020.”"

Currently, the Liverpool senior team trains at the Melwood ground, which is sort of outdated and needs some improvement. It did not make sense in the first place as the rest of the Liverpool organization and teams is housed at the Kirkby ground. However, bringing the sides together is a show of unity and moving forward as one of Europe’s largest and most important clubs.

The project had insights from many people including the Liverpool executives, team, and even Klopp himself, as the club wants the training ground to be elite compared to its counterparts. Some of the development plans look pretty exceptional, and the investment could be a really worthwhile one.

This investment will make the club so much more efficient with all of the teams under one roof. It will also make for just a better overall facility, with better equipment and features, given the size of the investment. It is really a big sign from the Fenway Sports Group that Klopp is doing a great job with the club.

They can see the focus he puts into giving the youth squad chances in the senior squad with players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, and Ben Woodburn all getting first team chances. They trust in Klopp’s development enough that they believe putting him under one roof with the rest of the teams will provide a better outcome for the club as a whole.

Obviously Klopp thinks so too as he also said in the interview that,

"“It’s pretty rare that a manager can plan that far but I am quite optimistic that I will be here when we start to use the facility”"

It is great to see how Klopp has changed the culture at Liverpool in just a few short years. He has turned over the squad into world-class talent, put a large focus on the youth development, and now even pushed for a new training ground.

That is why, to me at least, Klopp is not under much pressure this year. Surely, we all as fans want to see him win a title with the team, we desperately need one. However, he has already done so much to uplift the club from what it was before he got here, to the point where he will probably be remembered for a long time after he leaves.

Thank the owners for the large investment, but do not forget, it was Klopp’s hard work that is allowing us to be in a position to get it.
