Liverpool have hit the ground running in the 2018-19 Premier League season, will a stable back four steer them to the title?
Liverpool have won their opening five league games of the new campaign – the first time that has happened in the Premier League era – and as expected, many are tipping them to go all the way as far as mounting a stiff title challenge goes.
The Reds have kept three clean sheets thus far, shipping just two goals, and teenage right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold reckons manager Jurgen Klopp’s decision to stick with a consistent backline could go a long way in their hunt for silverware.
"“In any successful team there’s always quite a stable back four that never changes too much and I think that the manager has done that so far this season,” Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports.“We haven’t rotated too much and we’re all creating bonds every single game and that really helps.”"
Klopp has named an unchanged back-four consisting of the 19-year-old, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson in each of the six games played across all competitions this season, and it seems the German might have finally found a way to guide Liverpool to a first league title since 1990.

Summer arrival Alisson has been a great addition to the squad (despite that unfortunate Leicester City gaffe), and the Anfield outfit sure boasts of arguably the best defense in the English top-flight now.
The department has been long seen as the weakest in the Liverpool squad, but it could be regarded as the best at the moment considering the quality depth at its disposal.
Simon Mignolet, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno are all available options to fill every of the position at the back, and that defensive strength could make all the difference ahead of another long campaign.
Klopp’s decision to persist with the same players at the back has paid off so far, and barring injuries and suspensions, there is nothing to suggest much changes would be made going forward in league and crucial games.
“Goals win you games, defences win you titles” goes an age-long mantra, and with Liverpool at long last impressing at both ends of the pitch, their 2018-19 EPL season could end with a title win.
