Liverpool are under criticism once again from disgraced pundit Richard Keys who is claiming the Reds made a huge error when signing Virgil van Dijk.

The sky is blue. Water is wet. Richard Keys is chatting shite about Liverpool Football Club. It must be hard for a petty man like Keys to see Jurgen Klopp’s men become the best team in England but that is what they are now. The table doesn’t lie.

Because it is virtually impossible to find meaningful criticism of Liverpool on the pitch disgraced pundits Richard Keys and Andy Gray are inventing ways of throwing manure at the club.

More from Rush The Kop

The pair were discussing the Reds on their BeIN Sports after Liverpool’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday. Their guest was former Scottish international John Collins. He was the assistant manager at Celtic when Virgil van Dijk was still at the club.

Speaking about the Dutch defender he mentions how every top team came to look at him and how he spoke to Gary McAllister, who was an assistant to Brendan Rodgers at Anfield at the time. He tells the story how the big clubs all had some reservations about the attitude of the colossal defender.

That left Southampton as the only Premier League club willing to pay the £12 million fee. as we know he ended up at St. Mary’s where the Reds shelled out a world record £75 million for him in January of this year.

Keys and Gray take that story to slam Liverpool for making a £63 million mistake. This is a stupid piece of logic. For a start who knows if he would have developed in the same way at Anfield in 2015 than he did at Celtic. It is all ‘what-ifs’. Who knows? Perhaps van Dijk arriving in 2015 would have meant Rodgers wasn’t fired a few months later and Klopp would never come.

And if Liverpool made a mistake passing up the center back for £12 million then so did every other top club. To claim that error is specific to Liverpool is dumb. And anyway, try to find a Red that cares about that £63 million now Virgil is here and steering Liverpool to the top of the table.
