The earlier Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool start thinking about trophies this season the better

Jurgen Klopp can’t afford to lead Liverpool to another barren season following the promise he made three years ago.

“If I sit here in four years, I am pretty confident we will have one title,” the BBC reported that Klopp said during his first ever press conference as the Reds’ boss in October 2015.

Almost three years later, the Anfield outfit are yet to win any piece of silverware under the German, despite several close shaves.

Right now, Liverpool are top of the English Premier League table following a perfect start to the 2018-19 campaign, and it seems this could be the season the coveted trophy finally returns to the red half of Merseyside since 1990.

Klopp’s side have won their opening six fixtures of the new campaign – the only side to have done so in the top-flight- and despite being widely tipped as favorites for the title, the manager claims Liverpool “aren’t thinking about trophies at the moment” – said the Echo.

Given that the German boss is in his third full season in charge of the Reds, and with his promise of “one title in four years” is in its final season, the earlier Liverpool start thinking of winning the Premier League, the better.

What’s Klopp’s focus then if he is only “thinking about how to win football games and improve games”?

Sounding cautious, humble and playing mind games won’t help out right now considering the fact that the Red’s last trophy came 12 years ago – the 2006 FA Cup final win over West Ham United.

The players and fans have to know what the mission and goals for the season are as soon as possible, and that knowledge could go a long way in stirring them towards success this season.

No matter how beautiful Liverpool keep playing, a dusty cabinet won’t do them any justice, and this season could be their best chance to win a first Premier League title given their blistering form at the moment.

Klopp has proven to be one of the best tactical minds in the game, but his meagre silverware return isn’t impressive, and eventually, a manager is only judged by the number of trophies he has, not the number of games won.

Liverpool have enough depth and quality within their squad to challenge on all fronts this season, and failing to win a major trophy could force some of their stars towards the exit, sooner or later.

If Klopp’s claims are indeed true, the Reds aren’t doing something right, and they have to start thinking of trophies right from Wednesday night when Chelsea come visiting Anfield in the third-round of the League Cup.
