Liverpool U23 starlet Liam Miller has started up front for Canada as they took on Dominica in a Concacaf Nations League qualify fixture.

Miller picked up his third cap for his homeland as they easily beat the island nation, who are ranked 177th in the world. The Canadians are currently the 79th best team, below the United Arab Emirates.

He started alongside 17-year-old Alphonso Davies, who was recently signed by Bayern Munich for £9 million. Davies was born in a refugee camp after his parents fled Liberia and only received Canadian citizenship in 2017.

Other high(ish) profile national teammates include Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett, who has only played 18 times for the north American country.

The 19-year-old is yet to make his professional club debut, but hit six goals in 17 appearances during the U18 Premier League competition and was rewarded with a promotion to the second string.

Miller arrived on the scene with a bang, netting a hat-trick on debut as Liverpool youngsters beat Blackburn Rovers 4-0. However, a 15cm tear in his quad meant the starlet spent some time at the treatment table.

The forward was born in Toronto and moved to London aged 13 to play for Fulham, but it wasn’t long before Merseyside came calling. Manager Jurgen Klopp has noticed the youngster, who has been offered the chance to train at Melwood.

Neil Critchley definitely seems to rate the player, and has praised the mental side of Miller’s game and said that he knows how to find the back of the net when the opportunity presents itself.

Despite being a way off the first team squad, it still bodes well that Miller has been capped three times by Canada. That shows that the forward has a good basic level of ability, and that bodes well for the future.
