Liverpool vs Red Star Belgrade: Mohamed Salah breaks massive club record
Liverpool star forward Mohamed Salah has broken a massive club record and is now the fastest man to reach 50 goals for the Reds.
Salah swiped the accolade from Fernando Torres, who managed to do it in 72 games. For comparison, Michael Owen required 98 while Robbie Fowler hit 50 in 88 appearances.
The Egyptian has blown all three legends out of the water by reaching the milestone in 65 matches. After hitting the back of the net 44 times across all competitions last season, it was inevitable that Salah would break Torres’s record this season.
The surprise isn’t that he beat the Spaniard, but that it took him so long. But he finally got there after scoring twice as the Liverpool beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0 in the Champions League.

2018/2019 has been a bit of a lean one by the Egytpian’s Anfield standards and he’s only scored six goals in 13 games. Prior to the Huddersfield game, the star had only hit the back of the net once in six appearances – and that was against a poor Southampton in the Premier League.
But Salah appears to be approaching the character everyone fell in love with and the brace against Red Star should improve his confidence. The forward is still missing chances, but he’s now troubling the scorers and that is a good thing.
Liverpool have Cardiff City on Saturday in the league, and that should present opportunities for Salah to continue with his improved run of form.
Arsenal are up the week after and that’ll represent a tougher challenge, but one that the Egyptian have proven he can overcome.
Teams who win the league need firepower up top, but they also need to be secure at the back and for the first time in a long time the Reds have both.
Jurgen Klopp’s team have only conceded three goals in nine games, and although Arsenal are running hot right now, Liverpool will be confidence of keeping their forward line quiet.
