Liverpool vs Arsenal: Gunners handed double boost before Saturday
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have to prepare his forwards for a potential Arsenal double boost before Saturday’s game.
Injured defenders Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolašinac could both return to action in time to take on Reds, reported Evening Standard journalist James Benge.
At the start of August Kolašinac was ruled out for eight to 10 weeks, said the Guardian, after picking up a knee complaint during an International Champions Cup fixture against Chelsea.
Meanwhile Monreal was suffering from a hamstring niggle and that’s why he didn’t play against Leicester City or Crystal Palace.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery went with Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka at left-back against Palace, before Xhaka swiftly conceded the penalty that allowed Palace to level proceedings and escape with a point. Mohamed Salah would have been licking his lips at the thought of taking on the makeshift defender, but it appears as if that fantasy will be no more.
The change in personal shouldn’t bother Salah or the rest of the Liverpool forwards too much, especially now that the Egyptian King has found his form. After scoring and assisting twice in the Reds’ routine win against Cardiff City on Saturday, Salah now has five goals and three assists from 10 league starts.
Klopp also has more options than ever to turn to as Adam Lallana started again at the weekend, before being replaced by Xherdan Shaqiri – who had an instant impact. After tweaking the formation slightly, Klopp has been rewarded with key performances from several fringe players.
Fabinho and Shaqiri have both excellent, while Lallana got on the ball and tried to make things happen. But like all players returning from a lay-off, the playmaker needs time.
Kolašinac and Monreal will be in the same boat if Emery decides to start them on Saturday, and Liverpool will have to make the most of what is bound to be a rusty performance from the full-backs.
