Liverpool owners FSG are celebrating after the Red Sox clinched the World Series. Success for the John Henry and co. will help the Reds to their title.

The World Series will probably pass most Liverpool fans by without much recognition. Baseball lacks the international interest that the NBA and NFL generate; it is the most “American” of the major sports.

However Reds should take notice this year. The Boston Red Sox are this year’s winners of the World Series after defeating the LA Dodgers in five games to clinch the title. Liverpool and the Red Sox share the same owners in John W. Henry and FSG.

While it may seem irrelevant to the goings on at Anfield, success over in North America can have some good bearing on Jurgen Klopp’s men this season.

Whenever a company owns more than one sports team they are open to the accusation that one  (or more, or even all) of their franchises doesn’t get the attention they deserve. Many Kopites have thrown that at FSG over the last eight years.

Winning in baseball takes off the pressure for them to find immediate success at home. American sports are more cyclical in nature – there are up and down periods; including ‘tanking’ seasons. The Red Sox victory means less pressure from fans and media for next year. allowing them to focus on Liverpool.

They also don’t need to spend a huge amount of time or money in this off-season to rebuild the Red Sox. They have their dynamic manager and coaching staff and the core of the roster has not even hit their prime. Ring any bells?

This is the second World Series that Boston have won since FSG took ownership of Liverpool in 2010. The previous win was in 2013 and came at the beginning of a blistering season where Brendan Rodger’s side fell just shy of the title.

Watching the Red Sox celebrate the title- including clips of Henry and Tom Werner – only makes me more hungry to see a Premier League win at Anfield. FSG being successful in baseball certainly can’t hurt.
