Liverpool could be active in the January transfer window if they decide to accept large offers for two defenders and reinvest in young talent.

The January transfer season promises to be a quiet one for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp is largely happy with his squad and the team spirit in the group. However if huge offers arrive for two defenders then Klopp could invest the proceeds in two huge young defensive talents.

Today there has been reports that new Fulham Manager Claudio Rainieri wants to make Joel Matip his first signing in the January transfer window. The Cameroonian center back has gone from first choice to fourth choice in the last year after the purchase of Virgil van Dijk and the progression of Joe Gomez.

Fulham are likely to continue their heavy investment in their squad as they bid to stay in the Premier League after getting promoted last season.

There has been long-term interest from Barcelona for in second choice left back Alberto Moreno. He is now firmly a backup to first team star Andy Robertson and a decent offer from Nou Camp would convince Liverpool to sell a player who has been much criticized by the fans during his spell at Anfield.

The move would appeal to the Spaniard as he is has probably more chance to get first team minutes for Barca than at Liverpool; such is Robertson’s form and rise to prominence. He would also be reunited with good buddy Philippe Coutinho.

Those deals could leave a huge chunk of cash on Klopp’s table and a need for defensive reinforcements. The manager is likely to move for young talent rather than experience if history is anything to go by.

That could lead to the rumored move for top young prospect Matthijs Ligt from Ajax. It would likely take a £40+ million deal in today’s climate to sign the in-demand youngster.

The Reds are also in the market for Toulouse youngster Jean-Clair Todibo, rivaling Juventus for the developing center back. These two talent would go a long way to replace Joel Matip and Alberto Moreno if they are to leave in the next transfer window.
