Liverpool may have to choose between two of their most wanted transfer targets as both Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele are possible.

While the received wisdom is that Liverpool will not spend a huge amount in the January transfer window, there are two developments that may radically alter those plans: Long-term targets Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund and Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona could be available for massive transfers.

Pulisic has been a player Jurgen Klopp has wanted at Anfield since the manager arrived in 2015. The Reds made a tentative offer for him in the summer of 2016 and have retained interest. Now talks have stalled on a new deal for the American at Dortmund and Liverpool could pounce.

Chelsea are also interested but Liverpool’s commitment, and the prospect of playing under Jurgen Klopp, should be enough to sway the forward.

Christian Pulisic is valued around £70 million and Dortmund are willing to cash in on him now after the incredible breakthrough of England star Jadon Sancho. This is a price tag that Liverpool will feel is appropriate.

Barcelona have stated this week that they don’t want to sell Ousmane Dembele but his agent is hankering for a move. As we have seen with his moves to Dortmund and the Nou Camp; his agent usually gets what he wants and gets paid handsomely in the process.

I am convinced Klopp likes Dembele and would be interested if he is available. That could leave the club torn between two pricey targets.

My instinct is that they would move for Pulisic out of the two. He is younger, cheaper and the deal would be easier to negotiate. They also have a longer history of interest in him.

The Liverpool defense has been exceptional this season and, surprisingly, it is the forward line that fallen below last season’s standards. A huge move for either of these stars would be a fantastic coup for the club.
