Liverpool defender Virgil van DIjk has offered much hope to fans in his latest interview but also warns: “We have nothing yet”.

Feelings in football can rest on the finest of lines. The 96th minute from Divock Origi in the Merseyside derby has given the Liverpool fanbase a buzz this week. A draw – and falling further behind Man City – would have been a disaster. Virgil van Dijk is riding both those emotions in his latest interview.

Speaking to ESPN he spends most of the interview speaking positively about what is happening at Anfield.

“I feel there is something going on here. We have great momentum at the moment” the Dutchman claims. “Everyone is feeling good. Obviously we can all still improve a lot of our game, but like I said, there is definitely the feeling that we are on the right track.”

It is great to hear how the players believe in Jurgen Klopp and the direction of the club after their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

However there must be caution – three away losses in the Champions League and a failure in the Carabao Cup prove just that.

Those disappointments in the cup competitions are recognized by van Dijk when he warns: ” In the end we have nothing at this moment other than a lot of improvement.”

As records are being broken for clean sheets and defensive performances in the league he is under no illusion that will automatically equate to silverware.

There is much hard work ahead of these Reds – starting with a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley this evening. I am hugely encouraged to hear the level-headed positivity coming from one of this side’s most influential players.

Liverpool are five points behind Man City after the league leaders won last night against Watford. Three points for Klopp’s men tonight is crucial.
