Former Liverpool player Javier Manquillo wants Newcastle United to win at Anfield on Boxing Day as the Reds look to cement their Premier League chances.

Manquillo now turns out for the Magpies and claims that despite his Anfield experience being ‘special’ he still wants to help derail Jurgen Klopp’s attempts at the title.

The Spaniard signed for the Reds in 2014 from Atletico Mardid on a two-year loan, but Liverpool terminated it early after just 19 appearances.

Following that, the right-back was shipped out to Marseille and then Sunderland before moving just a bit further north for his permanent transfer to Newcastle.

Despite this raft of clubs, the defender is still only 24-years-old but clearly wasn’t suited to life at the top clubs in France, Spain or England. In fact, he’s not even the Magpies’ regular right-back and has featured there just four times this campaign.

Despite his words, Newcastle are unlikely to pose much of a threat to Liverpool’s defence. They could barely muster any danger to Fulham – who have the worst back four in the league.

Rafa also loves to shut up shop against the bigger sides and as the Reds have one of the most feared attacks in the division he’s unlikely to try and beat Liverpool at Anfield.

In other news, Trent Alexander-Arnold has trained with the first team and will be fit for Wednesday’s game. This’ll allow James Milner to move into midfield and Nathaniel Clyne to fade into obscurity.
