Liverpool are on high alert after transfer target Adrien Rabiot has been frozen out of the PSG squad.

The Mirror has reported that the Reds could decide to come back in for Rabiot after the French side indicated a willingness to offload him in January.

PSG are not going to be held to ransom over a new deal for the midfielder, and because of his refusal to pen a new deal Rabiot has been ostracised in Paris and told he has no future at the club.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has taken this hard line with the talented player because they don’t want to be told what to do by a footballer. As a result, Rabiot has been banned from the dressing room on game day.

Barcelona are also interested in the 23-year-old, and earlier rumours had indicated a deal was done already. But that doesn’t appear to be the case and that’s where Liverpool could come in and do a deal.

There’s clearly been a massive breakdown between all parties and the sooner Rabiot leaves Paris the better it would be. He’s definitely too good a player to rot in the reserves, while being banned from the changing room seems to be like cruel punishment.

Club officials also won’t speak to the lad, said the Mirror, as his total banishment reaches every corridor of the club.

However, do the Reds really need another midfielder? Manager Jurgen Klopp can already chose from Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Naby Keita. There is barely room for those five, never mind Rabiot.

The Frenchman would certainly command a high wage level as well – and whether the club could afford that and strengthen in other areas is unsure.

Back to the Premier League, and Liverpool play Arsenal on Saturday afternoon in their least league game of 2018.
