Liverpool have confirmed that a fourth player will depart in the January transfer as they agree to send Ovie Ejaria on loan to Reading.

It is becoming a busy January transfer window for Liverpool Football Club but not in the way you probably want it to be. The Reds have confirmed that Ovie Ejaria will head to Reading on-loan in the Championship.

The England Under-21 international had been on loan at Glasgow Rangers under former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. He managed a couple of goals and assists in his 20 appearances north of the border.

To further aid his development he has been given another loan move following his Rangers stint and time at Sunderland last season. He has been a solid performer in both those spells but needs to kick on to the next level to challenge for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first team next season.

Ejaria is the fourth Liverpool player to leave Anfield in this window. Last week saw the double move of Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne moving to Bournemouth. The young England striker moving permanently on a £19 million deal + £6 million in add-ons. Clyne is there initially on-loan for the remainder of the season but the expectation is he will leave in the summer.

Kamil Grabara was the third player to leave in the window heading to Denmark on-loan at AGF Aarhus. The reserve goalkeeper will be looking for some valuable first team experience.

While there is no surprise that Ovie Ejaria is heading how to gain more first tea opportunities there is a little surprise in the timing.

The Reds have a mini-injury crisis in defense with Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all out for Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion. That means Fabinho will likely partner Virgil van Dijk at the back. Many had thought Ejaria would be kept around as insurance for a week or two until at least a few of the injured player returned.
