The Liverpool Academy has long produced legends for the first team. Here are the top five candidates for greatness in front of the Kop.

Many Liverpudlians are born and bred through the Academy system. The likes of Steven Gerrard have become legends and those like Trent Alexander-Arnold have become essential first team starters.

There is a long list of Liverpool names who have come through the system and made a huge impact on the club: Robbie Fowler; Michael Owen; Steve McManaman; Jamie Carragher and Phil Thompson are just a few.

The Academy is a place where the biggest and most promising stars can hone in on their skills and compete against other talented players to hopefully earn a spot within the first team. Baseball calls this the ‘farm system’.

Teams like Chelsea have proven it can be both a source for the first team and a source of increased revenue. Both of those things help you win trophies – the reason Liverpool exists.

We like to say the  youth academy of LFC is the second best team on Merseyside above Everton! Currently, it is a players dream to be stationed at the Kirkby Academy, seeing as though gaffer Jurgen Klopp loves to pick on young talent in big moments.

Through the past couple years, Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Joe Gomez have all been given first team appearances. Alexander-Arnold and Gomez have now both solidified starting roles within the team while Woodburn is out on loan to Sheffield. A couple of players on this list have also gotten first-team debuts very recently in the FA Cup against Wolves as well.

Nevertheless, on to the rankings,  starting out with a hugely promising full back…
