The manager surely did not want to interrupt the Welsh international’s development in the Championship. He has been very positive about the influence of Frank Lampard on the youngster.
However it must have been a temptation to bring him back as an option from the bench as Liverpool press to win the Premier League and progress through the knockout stages of the Champions League.
One thing that has been consistent through Klopp’s time at Anfield is a propensity to think about the long-term development over short-term benefit.
The decision to leave Harry Wilson on loan is testament to that philosophy. While fans may want to bring in as much insurance as possible for this season, it is Klopp’s forward thinking methods that have brought us to this point.
Klopp’s plan to develop Wilson is working so the club are going to stick with it. The Reds will see the benefit next season, either through having a first team option for free or selling him for a huge sum.
The highlight reels of his goals and free kicks mean that Kopites are eager to see him sooner rather than later. We have at least six months to wait to see the Welsh wizard for ourselves.
