Liverpool are battling it out with Barcelona, Arsenal and a host of top European clubs in the transfer market for Brazilian defender Emerson.
After a spate of injuries and a suspension it is no surprise that Liverpool have their eyes on the transfer market for a player who can bolster their defensive options. The Reds are battling with Barcelona and others for the signing of Atletico Mineiro defender Emerson.
The 20-year-old is a right back on the rise and has gained the attention of 14 top clubs according to reports in The Mirror today. Liverpool and Barcelona lead the chase but there is interest from Germany, Spain and Italy also.

Juventus and Inter Milan are the Serie A sides watching the defender, while Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund and Valencia are also keeping tabs.
The article lists two other Premier League clubs vying with the Reds for the signing. Arsenal have become serious contenders after Hector Bellerin was ruled out for the rest of the season – and most of 2019 – with a cruciate knee injury.
While most of these sides are looking for a summer move, the Gunners may force the market to change if they make their move now to cover the injured Spanish defender. Watford are the other English team in the mix.
I don’t see Liverpool making a January move as they have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez not far away from returning to the squad.
However Emerson fits the mold of a potential Jurgen Klopp signing. Full of talent, technique with strong physical attributes.
He also fits the FSG profile of a young player whose value will only grow at Anfield. With Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker and Fabinho already on Merseyside that could help sway the young lad towards picking Liverpool as a place to further his career.
