Liverpool look on course to lift the title with their spending habits meaning they are better placed to win the Premier League.

At least, that’s what research by Free Super Tips has uncovered. They claim that the Reds’ decisions in the transfer market makes them favorites to win the league, based on data from this campaign and the last four seasons.

The website have undertaken their research and factored results, managerial outgoings and transfer value for money to see how top flight sides have been going on the field in comparison to what they’ve spent in the last two transfer windows.

And they’ve revealed that Liverpool have spent £3 million for each point they’ve gained, which will drop by nearly half if the Anfield side manage to reach 100 points by the end of the season.

No club in the past five campaigns has been able to win the Premier League by spending less than £940,000. The lowest spend-per-points was Chelsea in 2015, who got under that £1 million mark nearly four years ago.

Pep Guardiola spent a huge amount of money to claim the league title last season. Transfermarkt.co.uk reckon they blew £285.75 million chasing Guardiola’s first Premier League as Aymeric Laporte came in for £58.50 million, Benjamin Mendy for £51.75 million and Kyle Walker for £47.43 million.

Alongside those deals, Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Danilo all came into the club for large fees while Riyad Mahrez was the big summer signing during the 2018 summer.

That means that Guardiola cost City £2.9 million per point to claim the title, which is more than Chelsea spent for their 2016/2017 win under Antonio Conte (£1.3 million) and Leicester City (£1.1 million).

Liverpool spent £151.23 million last season and £163.98 million for 2018/2019 as Jurgen Klopp added Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andy Robertson to a squad that was in dire need of an overhaul.

The Reds are well placed to win the league if current spending trends are taken into account – and they should do it at a relevant discount, compared to the arms race initiated by City.
