Liverpool attacker Rhian Brewster has revealed his frustrations at his current injury situation as well as the encouragement he has and hopes for the future.

Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster has had dramatic changes in fortune over the last 18 months. From the heights of winning the Under-17 World Cup with England to over a year on the injury table. He understandably has some huge frustrations:

“It has been a frustrating time, I’ve been out for a long time and I don’t wish that on anyone.”

He came away from the tournament with England in 2017 with the Golden Boot. Hattricks against USA in the quarter-final and Brazil in the semi-final were followed by a goal in the 5-2 victory over Spain in the final.

He drew huge amounts of praise from manager Jurgen Klopp and was brought into train with the first team. He suffered a high ankle sprain early last year and was expected to be out until Christmas.

The most recent reports say he will now not return until the pre-season where he is hoping to make a big impression on the manager:

“They can’t wait for me to be back in training and hopefully make my debut this year, if not next.”

He may have a golden opportunity to make his debut next year and be included regularly in first team activities.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. The club have been actively trying to sell Divock Origi for over a year. Dominic Solanke is already out of the door. That leaves no-one ahead of Brewster as backup for Roberto Firmino and the central attacking position next season.

It is very likely that Liverpool will sign an attacker in the offseason – Timo Werner of RB Leipzig is the most likely option. But there is currently an open door ahead of the youngster.

Hopefully he can put his injury worries behind him and fulfill the potential he flashed before this spell on the sidelines.
