By David Gate
Liverpool are vying with Manchester United for the signing of Portuguese sensation Joao Felix from Benfica according to the latest reports.
While the first team are focussed in on a Premier League title push and a Champions League challenge the hierarchy at Liverpool are looking to next summer. The latest transfer news is that the Reds are battling it out with Manchester United for the Benfica midfielder Joao Felix.
The 19-year-old wonderkid has attracted interest from top clubs around Europe this season with his sensational displays. The latest rumors in Calcio Mercato have Liverpool with Man Utd, AC Milan, Juventus and Bayern Munich all watching him.

He has amassed six goals and three assists in just 12 Primeira Liga appearances with a couple of other goals in cup competitions. that is outstanding production for such a young player.
Yet while those stats are impressive it is the quality of his technique and all round play that really has the big clubs excited.
Transfermarkt.com has him valued at €15 million but the latest reports suggest Benfica would want nearer to €100 million for their midfield prodigy.
I can’t see Liverpool being interested and those prices but this is an interesting transfer rumor. He would fit the mold of a ‘Philippe Coutinho replacement’ that many fans have been crying out for.
However I think there is more legs in the speculation around Sandro Tonali of Brescia. The Italian plays more centrally and is better equipped to take on some of the defensive responsibilities that Jurgen Klopp demands in his players.
There is growing expectation that Liverpool will add a young midfielder and a proven goalscorer to the squad in the summer. They will also be on the hunt for another left back when Alberto Moreno’s contract runs out.
Outside of that much will depend on how many players leave Anfield in the summer and how much transfer revenue they bring in to supplement other purchases.
