Liverpool may have struck it lucky for a second time this week as Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman appears to have picked up an injury.

Coman limped off the field on Friday night as his side narrowly scraped past Bundesliga strugglers Augsberg. Niko Kovac’s side came from behind twice to steal a 2-3 victory.

The 22 year old winger has been a regular in the side during 2019, and appeared to be coming into some form with three goals in as many games this month.

With Robben still sidelined from an injury picked up in November and Thomas Muller serving a suspension, the German side may now be slightly short on the attacking side of the pitch.

While Coman has not officially been ruled out for Tuesday, the fact that he needed to come off after all three substitutions had been made may suggest a genuine fitness concern.

The news is likely music to Liverpool ears, as they have their own injury woes in defense heading into the game.

With Joe Gomez still in surgery rehab, Virgil van Dijk suspended, and Dejan Lovren a serious doubt (surprise, surprise), Jordan Henderson or Fabinho will need to step in alongside Joel Matip at center-back.

The loss of Coman could be significant to Bayern’s game plan. If they were looking to absorb pressure and hit on the counter attack, they’ve now potentially lost their quickest asset to spring those breaks.

Injuries aside, what will perhaps excite Jurgen Klopp even more is the performance Die Bayern threw in against a distinctly average side just four days before their trip to Anfield.

Though it can be argued that Champions League distractions may have led to a sub-par performance, Bayern are currently desperately chasing Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga.

They should have been entirely focused on the league match, which makes their performance even more disappointing.

The sloppy manner in which Kovac’s side conceded two goals may have Liverpool’s attacking trio licking their lips. Buoyed by a passionate home crowd, the Reds could take full advantage if the German outfit are unable to wipe away the Augsberg cobwebs.
