Liverpool give Robertson tough competition as defender deal confirmed
By David Gate
Liverpool are planning to give Andrew Robertson more competition next season for the first team after agreeing a new deal for Adam Lewis according to reports.
Liverpool may not be heading into the transfer market this summer to replace Alberto Moreno. Instead they are offering Adam Lewis a new contract according to Sky Sports reports. The youngster will challenge Andy Robertson for a first team place next season.
Moreno is leaving Anfield on a free transfer after five seasons at the club when his contract expires this summer. The Spaniard has been the only left back in the squad as back up to clear first choice Robertson.

The Scottish captain has made the position his own in the last 18 months and is now considered one of the best at the position in Europe.
But like any position in the squad Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants competition for places and adequate replacements for rotation and replacement in the event of injury or suspension.
There has not been enough pressure from Moreno on the Scottish captain. Many expected the Reds to bring in an experienced left back to compete.
Instead the club’s hierarchy are banking on Adam Lewis fulfilling his potential. The youth left back has been involved with the first team training recently and was included in the mid-season squad break to Marbella last week.
Klopp will be hoping Lewis can emulate fellow youth academy full back Trent Alexander-Arnold and become a fixture in the first team.
Lewis will have a tougher job as Robertson is playing at such an outstanding level. However this is the kind of problems a manager wants to have; too many good players to keep happy and develop.
Saving transfer money by not buying a left back will give Klopp more funds to add another world-class forward to the rotation.
