Liverpool are getting ready to shift transfer priorities from Timo Werner to Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez according to The Guardian.

Liverpool Football Club have found a new transfer priority for this summer’s window; Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez is the newest target for the Reds according to the latest report in The Guardian.

The 22-year-old has risen to be a chief transfer target after Liverpool are expected to meet frustration in their pursuit of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

The German has been Jurgen Klopp’s first choice as a prolific attacker who could join the side as an excellent fourth option for the manager with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

However it appears Werner is set to sign with Bayern Munich instead after the player has reportedly agreed terms with the Bundesliga giants despite no fee being agreed between the clubs.

Liverpool have not wasted any time shifting their targets. Maxi Gomez has nine goals and five assists in La Liga this season and has 26 goals over the last two years in Spain.

The Uruguayan international is being encouraged to move to Anfield by his national colleague Luis Suarez. The ex-Liverpool star moved to Merseyside at a similar point of his career. A stellar three years saw him rise to be rated as one of the best players in the world before his move to Barcelona in 2014.

There has been interest from other Premier League clubs but none of Liverpool’s rivals are topping that list. The most firm interest in Gomez has come from West Ham who couldn’t compete with the Reds if the two clubs were battling it out.

While Klopp has not totally given up on the prospect of Timo Werner making it over to Anfield, the quick shift in attention to Maxi Gomez shows that the club will not be messing around in the transfer market this summer.
