Liverpool vs Bayern Munich: ‘Silly mistakes’ from Alexander-Arnold and Firmino ‘in Austria’
Liverpool beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League despite Trent Alexander-Arnold making ‘silly mistakes’ and Robero Firmino being ‘in Austria’.
The Reds progressed to the quarter final of the competition after Sadio Mane scored a beautiful opener before Virgil van Dijk hit the back of the net from a corner before Mane sealed the win in the 84th minute.
Joel Matip was unlucky as he put the ball in the back of his own net as Bayern briefly levelled proceedings, but even then the away goals rule was in Liverpool’s favour and there wasn’t any massive threat in the game.
But that doesn’t mean Die Roten didn’t have their spells of good performance, and one person who struggled a little bit was youngster Alexander-Arnold.

Or, it should be said, the Daily Mail thought that Trent had a tough night as they handed him a poor 5.5/10 match rating and accused the right-back of making too many ‘silly mistakes’. Alexander-Arnold is still developing and improving so this isn’t exactly unexpected.
However, the Echo and Guardian had conflicting views with the tabloid. Both newspapers thought the 20-year-old had a good night – with the Echo and the Guardian giving TAA an 8/10.
Franck Ribery and then Kingsley Coman were put in the youngsters pocket, said the Echo, which is always nice to read.
Firmino is a big part of the way Liverpool play, often because he’s prepared to drop deep and collect the ball from midfield. But at times the Brazilian was so deep he was ‘nearly in Austria’, wrote the Echo.
The local did praise his interplay, which we’ve come to expect from Firmino. The Mail also liked what they saw as they praised the forward for his ‘relentless and selfless’ performance – but the Guardian thought he could have been better with the ball at his feet.
There were other great performances from Virgil van Dijk and Mane, while Mohamed Salah also impressed despite his failure to score.
