As Liverpool prepare to take on Fulham it’s been revealed that Jordan Henderson will miss the game through injury and fans are loving it.

Times journalist Paul Joyce reported that Henderson is due to miss the Premier League clash on Sunday, while he also said Jurgen Klopp thinks the midfielder will have to avoid the England squad for their next batch of friendlies.

And strangely, Reds fans are over the moon with this prognoses. But, this sense of excitement isn’t really due to the fact that Henderson is missing out against Fulham – rather, because Hendo won’t feature for the Three Lions.

Liverpool supporters have come to view international breaks with a sense of dread. It’s rare that one goes by without one star or another picking up an injury that keeps them out of the starting XI, and with things going down to the wire that’s the last thing Klopp needs.

Hence the reaction on Twitter, where most of the replies centred around asking the Reds staff to pull key players like Roberto Firmino out of his country’s friendly squads as well.

However, things could get a little tight around the midfield as Naby Keita faces a late fitness test in order to prove that he’s recovered from the niggle that kept him out of the Bayern Munich game.

If Henderson and Keita are missing, it would leave Liverpool with just four options for the midfield three. Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner all started against Bayern – but you’d rate the chances of some rotation fairly highly.

Adam Lallana got the nod for the last Premier League game, and there would be no eyebrows raised this time if the playmaker was handed another start against Fulham.

Liverpool should be able to come away with three fairly routine points, but you never know in the top flight.

As handy as some people might think Henderson being unavailable is, it’s always good to have quality options on the bench and now Klopp has been robbed of that.
