Liverpool fans are buoyant after yesterday’s Premier League over Fulham but this stat about Alisson Becker and Loris Karius is not what we want to hear.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League, at least for now, and there is plenty of hope among the fanbase after the 2-1 victory against Fulham yesterday. However there is one stat that arose after the game that Reds would rather not think about.

The game was one by James Milner with a late penalty conversion which was needed after a mix-up at the back allowed ex-Red Ryan Babel to equalize for The Cottagers.

There were a number of culprits for the goal including James Milner‘s shinned clearance that caused the opportunity followed by a communication mix-up and soft header from Virgil van Dijk.

However it the hesitation to initially come out from Alisson Becker that being chiefly blamed; he also could have done better with van Dijk’s header.

That has led to him being credited with an error that led to a goal in the stat column; something goalkeepers and defenders want to avoid having next to their name.

The hard thing to swallow for Reds is that this is the keeper’s fifth error of the season, with three total leading to goals.

That is being contrasted with Loris Karius last season who didn’t make an error leading to a goal in the Premier League.

Anyone with eyes can tell that this stat doesn’t tell the whole story. Firstly, the Brazilian has yet to cause Liverpool to drop points. You can say that’s fortunate but it may also have to do with why and when those errors happen – when the opposition are chasing the game because he has been flawless to that point of the game.

Also, while Karius had a decent record in the Premier League, it was his Champions League final catastrophe that cost the Reds a sixth European Cup.

The implication in the tweet is that is a matter of perception, not ability. But anyone who has watched these two keepers knows the difference, and making your biggest errors in the biggest games is not just unfortunate. The elite players find ways of bringing their best to the grandest occasion.

I am not worried about Alisson who has been at least as good as Ederson and David de Gea this year, his only other rivals for best keeper in the league and is on course to break the Reds’ record for clean sheets in a season .
