The dreaded Liverpool international injury curse strikes again! News broke today that Xherdan Shaqiri will return to Melwood today after being ruled out of the next two fixtures for Switzerland.
The playmaker has been sent home after his groin injury was assessed by the national team’s medical staff. They judged him unable to play over the next ten days and sent him home.

He is the talisman – and best player – for Switzerland, so ruling him out this early must mean his injury is significant.
The speculation among the Liverpool fanbase is two-fold: will he be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on March 31st and how long has he had this injury?
The 27-year-old attacker was on the bench for the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday but did not see any action. That makes the injury curious to supporters.
Did he sustain it in training yesterday? Many are speculating that he has been carrying this injury for a while and that is why he has barely featured in the last few months. He has made only one substitute appearance since the beginning of February.
Others are suggesting that ‘groin injury’ may be a broad term for an issue that the player doesn’t want to be made pubic, oh I mean, public.
While that is all part of fans looking for something Liverpool related to discuss in an international break the key thing is his fitness for the visit of Spurs.
Nobody is expecting him to start in that match. However, we will need every attacking option from the bench available for the crucial matchup that will go a long way to deciding the fate of the Premier League title race.
