There were huge concerns after the huge win against Spurs as the Dutchman was filmed wearing ice and padding around his ankle. He picked up the knock during an exceptional piece of defending where he was marshaling Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli in a two-on-one situation.
He played the situation perfectly, forcing Sissoko to blaze over from distance. However he took a little niggle for his efforts.
Van Dijk has been in sensational form this season and is firmly in the reckoning for the player-of-the-year awards. He will be desperate to take the field against his former side as the Reds hunt down the Premier League title.
There was a little acrimony between the defender and The Saints as he agitated for his £75 million move to Anfield. A move in the summer of 2017 was aborted and he had to wait until January 2018 for the world record deal to finalize.
Since then he has been a crucial part in the rejuvenation of the Liverpool backline. Once a point of weakness for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the defensive unit has been the bed rock of this season’s title challenge.
Van Dijk was pictured making a flying save as a goalkeeper in the training session making everyone feel pretty certain he will play on Friday.
