Liverpool could be handed a boost in their title push as rivals Man City face losing key midfielder Fernandinho for both their clashes with Spurs this week.

There is barely anything in the Premier League title race between Liverpool and Man City so every little injury may make the difference. It looks like City anchor man Fernandinho will be in doubt for their clash with Spurs this weekend.

The Brazilian is almost certainly ruled out of tomorrow’s Champions League quarter-final second leg with Tottenham Hotspur after picking up an injury late on in the first half of the tie in London last week.

He sat out of City’s 3-1 win against Crystal Palace in the league that briefly took the Manchester side back to the top of the table before Liverpool’s excellent 2-0 win over Chelsea restored the Reds’ two point advantage, though City have a game in hand.

While Crystal Palace offered little threat to City – who have to drop points somewhere for Liverpool to win the league – Spurs will challenge the base of the City midfield more regularly. Not having Fernandinho will be a big blow to stopping Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

This weekend’s matchup between these two sides and the following week’s Manchester derby represent the greatest hope for Liverpool. Both Spurs and Man Utd are in a tight race for a Champions League place next season and will be looking to take points from City.

Every game now is huge for the Reds but their four remaining fixtures look winnable – Cardiff away, Huddersfield at home, Newcastle away and Wolves at home. On paper at least.
