Independent journalist Miguel Delaney has named where it all went wrong for Liverpool in their Premier League title pursuit.

Manchester City beat Manchester United on Wednesday night to reclaim their position at the top of the table and go ahead of the Reds by one point.

The Cityzens have beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United in their last three league games and don’t look likely to drop any more points before now and the end of the campaign.

Liverpool did have an advantage after City surprisingly lost to Newcastle United, Leicester City and Crystal Palace but failed to take full points from their subsequent fixtures.

And now Delaney has nailed the moment where it started to go wrong for Jurgen Klopp’s side – despite their amazing recent form.

That 0-0 draw with Everton as the moment when the initiative changed from Liverpool to City. Since that Merseyside derby draw, the Reds have gone full raging bull and haven’t lost a game – a run of nine consecutive victories that includes wins against Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Spurs.

But now it seems like this won’t be enough to carry them all the way to a Premier League title, despite only losing once all season.

All the side can do is keep on winning – and with Huddersfield Town, Newcastle and Wolves as the final three fixtures they should be able to do that.

City are over a rough period of three games though and will have the wind in their sails. They are out the Champions League, though, and Liverpool are in with a realistic chance of winning that competition.

All in all it’s been a very successful season, and even if it finishes without glory there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be spoken about in glowing terms.
