Liverpool 5-0 Huddersfield: That ball from Shaqiri to Robertson needs to be discussed more
Liverpool smashed Huddersfield 5-0 in the league and even Xherdan Shaqiri got minutes, and one pass of his to Andy Robertson needs a lot more attention.
Shaqiri had an excellent start to his career with the Reds, but Jurgen Klopp had shown him the cold shoulder after Christmas. But now the Shaq is back and his delightful little ball to Robertson needs to be discussed.
It can’t be easy to come into a game after so long out and have an immediate impact, and the fact that he did should award Shaqiri some major brownie points.
Because Mohamed Salah wouldn’t have been able to score his tap-in and Robbo wouldn’t have been able to register his 11 assist of the season if it wasn’t for the magical little Swissman and his deft touch.

Shaqiri received the ball with his back to goal, turned, drew the attention of three (maybe even four) Huddersfield defenders and slid a pass through the eye of a needle straight into the path of Robertson.
Shaq put it on a plate for Andy to put it on a plate. Pass inception!
But that bit of skill and the composure is why some Liverpool fans have been calling for his inclusion in the first team squad. There’s no doubt that the former Stoke City man has skill, but perhaps needs to learn more about Klopp’s tactical requirements before being trusted further.
The German is well known for taking his time with new signings, although none have been picked and discarded as viciously as Shaqiri. Robertson himself was a recipient of this method and played second fiddle to Alberto Moreno for a time.
Alex Oxlade-Chamerblain also benefited from this softly-softly approach, while to differing degrees so have Fabinho and Naby Keita.
All are pretty well integrated with the squad and have played important roles over the last two years. Maybe next season will be Shaq’s time.
