Liverpool saviour-in-waiting Ashley Barnes would make his son cry if it means Burnley will be able to beat Manchester City on Sunday.

Barnes has raised a City fan, he told the Daily Mail, but he’s fully prepared to crush his hopes over the weekend by sticking a few past Ederson – and in the process help the Reds to win the Premier League.

“Flynn isn’t happy. I’m telling him I’ve got to do my job against City and he’s like ‘come on Dad, serious,'” revealed Sean Dyche’s go-to up front option.

The forward continued to say that his son will try and sneak a City kit into the game and wear it underneath his Clarets gear – such is his devotion to Pep Guardiola’s side.

“He won’t be supporting Burnley that’s for sure. He will probably try to wear a City kit underneath his Burnley one,” revealed Barnes.

Liverpool need Dyche to do them a massive favour if they want to win the league – and Barnes, who has managed to hit the back of the net against every single member of the ‘Big Six’ this season and has 11 goals this season.

But they do face a massive task if they are going to defeat City, who responded really well to their loss against Tottenham in the Champions League.

They have beaten Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United in quick succession and don’t look as if they’ll lose. But, they have a history of losing to sides they aren’t supposed to – just ask Leicester, Crystal Palace and Newcastle.

Liverpool take on Rafa Benitez next before finishing the season against Wolves, which are two games they’ll be expected to win. Wolves are going well though, and could provide tricky opposition on the final day of the season.

But if Barnes can snag a few on Sunday it’ll be a much more interesting end to the campaign.
