Former Liverpool first team goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told reporters why he believes Alisson Becker is the best in the world.

Mignolet was speaking to the Daily Mail about the Reds first choice stopper and what makes him so good, as well as his own frustrations and motivations.

The Belgian will surely be thrown out the door in the summer as you couldn’t imagine Migs wanting to sit on the substitutes bench for another season.

Signed from Sunderland, Mignolet has had a chequered past with Liverpool and never really hit the required levels. One amazing performance would be followed by a poor one, and a club of the Reds’ stature needs more than that.

Alisson arrived in the Premier League with a good reputation but that’s since soared. He keeps Manchester City star Ederson out of the Brazil side and Mignolet called the teammate ‘the most complete goalkeeper I’ve seen in my career.’

Singling out what makes him better than the City man, the Belgian reckoned that while both had excellent footwork ‘the main difference between the two is that Ali is probably better with his hands.’

Going from a first choice to second is no easy task and staying motivated and part of the team has to be one of the hardest things a goalkeeper needs to contend with.

But Mignolet still works hard in training and does the right things. “I push myself every day. I get in the gym at 9am,” he said.

Liverpool take on Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon in a game that’ll see Rafa Benitez return to Anfield once again. With the Reds’ Champions League and league ambitions hanging by a thread, every point and every victory will still count.

In other news, the goalkeeper also revealed that attacker Sadio Mane is often the butt of his own jokes in the dressing room.
