U18 and U23 sides to climb Snowden for Stephen Darby Foundation
Liverpool U18s and U23s are going to climb Mount Snowden in order to raise money for the Stephen Darby Foundation.
The club has confirmed that the Academy sides will be scaling the peak for charity. They will be supporting the Foundation, which was set up by former Reds’ youth player Stephen Darby after he was forced to retire from the game in 2018 because of Motor Neuron Disease.
Darby came through the ranks at Liverpool and made six first team appearances before spending a large amount of time at Bradford City, making 239 appearances in five years.
After being forced to hang up his boots at the age of 30, Darby decided to devote his time to raising money in support of the cause.

The Academy have set themselves a goal of raising £3,000 and have already met over 50% of their goal from just 34 donors.
U18 manager Barry Lewtas said the decision to support Darby came about because the club treats their alumni like family, and despite the fact that most move on, they’re never erased from the fabric of Liverpool.
Lewtas said: “When someone moves on and their journey goes elsewhere, they’re never forgotten.”
U23 captian George Johnson reckons that not many lads will have done something like climb Wales’ tallest peak before, which can only be a good experience for them.
No doubt it’ll also serve as something of a team building exercise between the U18s and U23s, but also within the specific Academy squads as well.
“I think it’ll be a good experience for the lads for a good cause. It’s something I doubt many of the lads have done before,” said Johnson.
