Forget Tagliafico, could Angeliño be the man for Klopp?

Liverpool have been linked with Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, but should Jurgen Klopp be moving for PSV Eindhoven star Angeliño instead?

Tagliafico has had a great year for the Eredivisie winners, do doubt. He’s been a part of some scintillating Champions League football and is a fully capped Argentine international. The 26-year-old has pedigree.

But, Spaniard Angeliño has just finished his first campaign with PSV and it’s been a good one. With nine assists under his belt from 34 league appearances, he’s shown his can perform consistently and survive the rigours of a long season.

While Tagliafico is 26, Angeliño is only 22-year-old and therefor more likely to accept a role as a back up to Andy Robertson. The Ajax star, you’d imagine, would need a move now that offers him regular first team football. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand any new left-back brought in isn’t going to get that.

The PSV defender also makes nearly six defensive actions per game and gets beaten, on average, less than once a match.

Those are good numbers, especially for a player who spends so much time up the other end of the field.

Tagliafico has also had a great season, but he’s more of a defensive full-back and doesn’t provide the numbers that the Reds are used to from their full-backs.

He carries out more defensive actions per game, but interestingly gets beaten more often as well.

Liverpool have also been linked with Bristol City starlet Lloyd Kelly, and that makes sense too. Kelly has Championship experience, is young and highly rated.

He’d also cost less than Angeliño and would need less of a transition.

But if the decision is between two Eredivisie full-backs, Tagliafico may not be the right one. Klopp should be looking towards the Spaniard, not the Argentine.
