Liverpool fans love the news that James Milner and Joel Matip will be offered contracts by the Anfield hierarchy at the end of the season.

The Telegraph has reported that Reds duo Milner and Matip, both have just one year left on their deals and will be extending their stay on Merseyside.

Despite being 33-years-old, Milly is still one of the fittest players in the squad while Matip has improved considerably during the second half of the campaign.

Liverpool are keen to take a pragmatic, short-term approach with their older players and want to review their deals at the end of each season.

Sir Alex Ferguson did the same when his stars reached their 30s, said the newspaper, and the Reds want to adopt a similar approach.

The news has delighted Liverpool fans, who have come to see the importance of Milner this season. The former Manchester City man is a true leader and players with his heart of his sleeve every single time.

Matip arrived on a free transfer from Schalke and hasn’t always impressed, but since playing alongside Virgil van Dijk the ex-Camaroon international appears to have improved considerably.

He’s now played nearly 100 games for Liverpool and ended the season by starting 14 out of the last 16 games. If any defenders leave this transfer window, you can be sure it won’t be Matip. Maybe Dejan Lovren should start to feel worried?

News had circulated that Leeds United would try and use their promotion to the Premier League to lure Milner back to his boyhood club and help them survive their first season in the top flight since their relegation in 2003-2004.

But they failed to beat Derby County in the play off semi-final and the rest is history. Milly will have another season, at least, at Anfield and continue to enhance his reputation.
