Manchester United transfer target Adrien Rabiot wants to turn down their £170,000-a-week offer in favour of a Liverpool move.

The Daily Mail has written that United want to sign the French international on a free when his deal with PSG expires, but he’d prefer the join the fresh European champions.

Rabiot wants to play in the Premier League and the Red Devils want to give him the opportunity, except the floppy haired midfielder isn’t that bothered about Old Trafford.

They’re prepared to pay Rabiot £170,000-a-week as well as a large, £4.5 million signing on fee as part of his package. There is also interest from Barcelona, Juventus and Tottenham – but the PSG man wants to play for Liverpool.

As good as that is, and it definitely feels sweet to be considered ahead of United, you’d have to wonder where the player would fit in.

Liverpool have a packed midfield, especially now James Milner is confirmed to be staying on Merseyside for at least another season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming  back from injury and he’s another you’d consider to be a first team player. Surely Rabiot’s wages would be better spent in other areas, like a versatile forward or a reserve left-back.

Naby Keita, too, could do with more minutes on the field. We saw his gradual improved towards the back end of the campaign and his untimely injury curtailed those moments of promise.

You also have to question his attitude and personality. After missing out on World Cup selection with France, Rabiot refused to be placed on the standby list and hasn’t added to his six caps since then.

The midfielder has also had a falling out with PSG gaffer Thomas Tuchel. After featuring 224 times for the Paris side and scoring 24 goals, the academy product will probably leave under a cloud of smoke this summer.
