Sky Sports have been raising the possibility of Liverpool making a shock transfer move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer.

Liverpool broke the hearts of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Saturday in the Champions League final but maybe coming around to break them again. Sky Sports are claiming Liverpool could be interested in a transfer move for Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Danish midfielder has been at Spurs for six years and been a crucial part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side who have risen to be a threat in the Premier League and Europe.

His contract was renewed in 2016 but expires in the summer of 2020 meaning Spurs may have to sell him this summer if he continues to hesitate penning a new deal in North London.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur player and Sky Sports pundit Jamie O’Hara claimed on a broadcast today that Liverpool would be one of the clubs interested in him.

While the Reds have not had a specialist ‘number 10’ style player since Philippe Coutinho left they have developed a different kind of midfield that has worked for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Eriksen would be an excellent addition to the squad but would surely demand big wages and Spurs would want a hefty fee to sell to a direct rival. He has long been rumored to interest Barcelona or Real Madrid. Manchester United would also be interested, such is their desperate need for quality players.

Liverpool have not tended to target players who are over 27 so I can only see the Reds making a move if it were a unmissable financial opportunity. I can’t see the situation developing in that way.

Instead the club will look for a younger forward who can play any of the front three positions. Memphis Depay is the most likely prospect with the bookies at 10/11 odds on to arrive at Anfield in this transfer window.
