Liverpool have decided to release Daniel Sturridge at the end of his current contract and Leicester City have been earmarked as his next destination.

Sturridge will no longer be a Reds player next season, but could be still see the instinctive finisher in the Premier League?

Well, maybe. Brendan Rodger’s Foxes are currently favourites with Sky Bet to sign the forward, who played his last minutes with Liverpool during the miraculous 4-0 victory over Barcelona.

This 3/1 transfer would see Rodgers reunited with the player he turned into a goal machine during his first few full campaigns on Merseyside. Leicester finished the season strongly and you could see how Sturridge might be able to fit into his former gaffer’s plans.

However, America and the MLS are following hot on the heels of Leicester and are priced at 4/1 to complete his signature. The pace of the game over at the states is certainly slower and this could benefit his creaking body a bit more, and it would allow him some more longevity within football.

Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager seems to be doing wonders for their ability to get linked with footballers from around the globe, and they’re a surprise third favourite to get the deal for Sturridge done.

There’s no doubt the ex-Chelsea man would thrive in the Scottish Premier League, and it would help increase the link between Liverpool and the blue side of Glasgow.

Newly promoted outfits Aston Villa and Sheffield United are priced at 13/2 and 8/1 and what better way to try and secure another year in the top flight than sign a once-deadly striker on a free. Just be careful and make sure it works out better than it did for West Brom.

The Australian A-League might not feature the best quality of football but what better way could there be than seeing out your final years on the beaches of Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, the mountains of Wellington or the coffee shops of Melbourne? A trip down under is priced at 8/1.

Wherever Sturridge ends up going, it will be with the blessing of Liverpool fans from all over the world – who should remember him with fondness.
