Robbie Fowler fights back over journalist’s drinking claims
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has fought back over a journalist’s claims that he used to go out drinking before games.
Sam Cunningham wrote an article of iNews in which he criticised the former Reds striker and claimed he used to hit the bottle in the run up to games.
The article took aim at Fowler for his comments regarding Jesse Lingard’s social media updates while on his post-season break in Miami, and accused the former striker and his cohort of pundits of having ‘short memories’ in relation to their antics when playing the game.
Fowler didn’t take long to spot the offending tweet and have his own say, in which he asked Cunningham for proof of his accusations and labelled what he said ‘slanderous’.

This follows a recent trend of footballers and those who used to play the game calling out those who write about it on a public forum. Andy Robertson used his account to deny reports that he told Kieran Tierney to leave Celtic for the good of his career.
God scored 163 goals in 344 appearances for Liverpool across three different spells at the club. The first, which ended in 2001 when Leeds United signed him for £15.12 million, was his most productive as the striker netted 120 times in the Premier League.
Despite hitting the back of the net 14 times in 31 games for Leeds, Manchester City paid £8.82 million for Fowler but the forward could only score 27 goals in 92 appearances.
Fowler is now in charge of the Brisbane Roar in the Australian A-League and released 14 players before the start of the season and has made his first two signings.
Forward Roy O’Donovan and defender Tom Aldred are his first two deals with the Roar. O’Donovan has some experience Down Under and has been playing in the league since 2015, while Aldred joins from League One side Bury.
