Liverpool to sign Nicolas Pepe fresh transfer rumors instantly shot down
By David Gate
Liverpool have been strongly linked to Nicolas Pepe again today in the French press but the transfer rumor has been instantly shot down by club sources.
There were fresh rumors today about Nicolas Pepe moving to Liverpool after comments from the Lille president George Lopez but those links have been immediately dismissed by those close to the club.
Speaking to L’Equipe yesterday Lopez said: “We know what the offers are… His entourage have a favorite destination and that in itself is not a problem. The discussions are with prestigious clubs where he will be happy but everyone has the right to have a preference.”

Most observers believe his preferred club is Liverpool and the president is intimating that their have been talks.
However the Liverpool ECHO dismissed the news in their article stating: “The ECHO understands that the Reds have made no attempt to sign the forward, nor do they plan to, this window.”
There are many who point to last summer when the ECHO seemed to dismiss reports that Liverpool were going to sign Alisson Becker last year before doing just that.
The club have used the local newspaper in recent transfer windows to both rule out signings (eg. Thomas Lemar) or to act as a smoke screen while they do transfer business in secret.
ESPN journalist Melissa Reddy, who is well connected at the club, went out of her way to pour cold water on the idea Liverpool are going to sign Nicolas Pepe. Adding that to the latest denial from the ECHO makes me think this is one that definitely won’t happen.
Roberto Firmino is playing for Brazil in the Copa America deep into so July there will be a need for more forward cover early in the season.
While the Reds have a wonderful squad, fans agree that one or two additions to the first team mix will be essential to repeat last season’s achievements in the league and Europe.
